Transparency in Governance
The Problem
BCC residents routinely find out about major decisions after they are made. Council members hold pre-arranged meetings with developers before public hearings. Campaign finance disclosures are filed late or buried. The community is consulted as a formality, not a stakeholder.
Our Position
We support mandatory disclosure of all developer and lobbyist meetings prior to any vote. Real-time campaign finance reporting. Community impact assessments made public before hearings. Council members who refuse should be primary targets.
Background
Transparency is not a nice-to-have in democratic governance — it is the mechanism by which voters can hold officials accountable. Without it, accountability is impossible.
