Respect for Constituents
Constituents who show up to council meetings report being dismissed, talked over, and ignored. Public comment periods are structured to minimize impact with controversial measures being hear mid day to sideline residents at work. Council members ignore priorities important to the community prefering instead to protect and serve the interests of the small minority who get them elected. Development interests. This is not governance — it is a business feigning governance.
Elected officials work for their constituents, not the other way around. We support council members who genuinely engage with constituent concerns, hold real town halls, respond to communications, and treat public comment as input rather than inconvenience.
The erosion of respect for constituents is a symptom of officials who believe their seat is secure regardless of how they govern. That changes when voters make clear it is not.
